Guardians of the Hudson: Honoring Edward Halstead
During the Revolutionary War, the Hudson River was a vital lifeline for the Patriot cause. General Washington tasked soldiers like Edward Halstead, a private in the 3rd New York Regiment, with defending it against British control. Stationed at key forts, Halstead and his comrades endured harsh conditions to protect this critical waterway, helping secure America’s independence.
After the war, Halstead settled in Willoughby, Ohio, where he died in 1837. His grave in the neglected Chardon Road Cemetery now risks being forgotten. Local citizens and veterans are raising $50,000 to restore the cemetery by July 4, 2026, for America’s 250th anniversary, honoring Halstead and other patriots who shaped our nation. To donate please visit https://donorbox.org/chardon-road-cemetery-renovation

The unreadable headstone of Revolutionary War veteran Edward Halstead lies fallen in a dilapidated cemetery, worn, neglected, and forgotten in time.
Developing the Next Generation
Igniting a Passion for History and Patriotism
The Men of Honor Social Club is thrilled to team up with Liberty Camp USA to inspire the next generation of leaders! We’re sponsoring 5 young men to attend Liberty Camp, covering fees: $70 for Time Travelers (2nd-7th grade) or $25 for Young Patriots (8th grade-College). These week-long programs, held in Leroy Township (July 7th-11th) and Burton, OH, (July 21st-25th) immerse attendees in hands-on lessons about American history, leadership, and civic responsibility. Through reenactments, survival skills workshops, and mentorship, participants build character and learn the values of honor and duty that define our nation.
Our sponsored cadets will engage in activities like flag ceremonies, team-building challenges, and historical discussions led by veterans and educators. If your young man is interested in attending, email [email protected].
Let’s invest in the next generation of men who will shape a stronger America!

Club Core Competencies
Club members are expected to add value to their families, their communities, and their club by being proficient in three pillars: knowledge of history, physical fitness, and emergency preparedness.
History: Human nature does not change, so history repeats. By studying the past, we predict the future and learn timeless lessons. The honorable men that came before us—the doers of deeds, the men in the arena who stepped up when called—provide inspiration to lead with courage.
Fitness: A man must maintain a baseline of physical fitness to carry the load, both literally and figuratively, in times of trouble, serving himself, his family, and his community.
Preparedness: Every man should heed the Boy Scout motto, “Be Prepared,” ensuring readiness for any calamity to protect those who depend on him.

The Legend of White Feather
This month, we honor Carlos Hathcock, a U.S. Marine Corps sniper whose precision and courage in Vietnam defined heroism. Born May 20, 1942, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Carlos grew up in poverty, hunting to feed his family. His sharpshooting skills, honed in Arkansas’ backwoods, made him a natural marksman. At 17, he joined the Marines, driven by duty. By 1966, he was in Vietnam, earning the nickname “White Feather” for the feather in his hat, a symbol that terrified enemy forces.
Hathcock’s two tours yielded 93 confirmed kills, with estimates over 300. His most iconic feat occurred in 1967 near Hill 55, stalking a North Vietnamese general for three days. Crawling 1,500 yards through jungle, evading patrols and snakes, he fired a single, lethal shot, disrupting enemy command. Another legendary act saw him eliminate an enemy sniper by shooting through the man’s rifle scope—a feat of uncanny precision. These missions saved countless Marine lives by neutralizing high-value targets.
Despite constant danger, Hathcock remained calm and resolute. In 1969, he survived a mine explosion that burned over 40% of his body, yet he dragged comrades to safety. His selflessness extended to training others, mentoring snipers to protect platoons. Hathcock’s actions earned him the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart, though he shunned glory, focusing on duty.
After Vietnam, debilitating injuries forced his return home. He battled pain and, later, multiple sclerosis, yet co-founded the Marine Sniper School, shaping modern sniper tactics. His methods—patience, observation, and precision—remain doctrine. Hathcock’s humility defined him; he saw his kills as saving lives, not trophies. He passed away February 22, 1999, at 56, leaving a legacy of sacrifice.

Health and Wellness

Boost Testosterone Naturally
Testosterone fuels strength, energy, and drive—core traits of a capable man. Low levels sap vitality, muscle, and focus. Here’s how to optimize it naturally:
Lift Heavy: Perform compound lifts (squats, deadlifts, bench presses) 3–4 times weekly. Aim for 4–6 reps at 80–85% of your max to spike testosterone.
Optimize Sleep: Get 7–9 hours nightly. Poor sleep cuts testosterone by up to 15%, per a 2011 Journal of Clinical Endocrinology study.
Eat Healthy Fats: Include avocados, nuts, olive oil, and fatty fish. A 2020 Nutrients study found diets with 35% fat boost testosterone more than low-fat diets.
Manage Stress: Chronic stress raises cortisol, which suppresses testosterone. Practice deep breathing or meditation 10 minutes daily.
Get Sunlight: 15–20 minutes of daily sun exposure increases vitamin D, a key testosterone booster, per a 2019 Endocrine study.
Avoid processed foods and excessive alcohol, which tank hormone levels. Build these habits to stay strong and sharp.

Preparation
“Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.” – Benjamin Franklin
In a crisis—whether lost in the wilderness or navigating a blackout—knowing how to find your way without tech is critical. Here’s how to master basic navigation:
Learn to Use a Compass: Understand cardinal directions (N, S, E, W) and how to orient a map. Practice finding bearings to a landmark.
Read Topographic Maps: Study contour lines to identify hills, valleys, and water sources. FEMA offers free map-reading guides at www.ready.gov.
Use Natural Cues: No compass? The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. At night, locate the North Star (Polaris) using the Big Dipper’s pointer stars.
Mark Your Path: Use rocks, sticks, or chalk to leave trail markers, ensuring you can backtrack if needed.
Practice Locally: Test your skills in a nearby park. Navigate a 1-mile loop using only a compass and map to build confidence.
A 2023 Wilderness & Environmental Medicine study found that 70% of lost hikers lacked basic navigation skills, prolonging rescues. Carry a compass and map in your kit, and practice regularly.
